I HAD PURCHASED MY 88 LX HATCH 5.0 T-TOP BACK IN 1999 & IT HAD 69,000 MILES. PAINT STARTED TO PEEL REAL BAD & FLOOR BOARDS WERE RUSTED OUT & SAGGING. SO I DECIDED TO RESTORE IT. INSTALLED NEW FLOOR BOARDS, FENDERS & NEW WEATHERSTRIPPING ALL THE WAY AROUND THE VEHICLE. I STARTED TO SAND VEHICLE DOWN & FOUND OUT IT HAD BEEN REPAINTED 4 TIMES. FACTORY COLOR WAS BLUE MET. THEN PAINTED BLOOD RED, THEN MAROON RED & FINALLY FIRE RED. SO I DECIDED TO SAND DOWN TO BARE METAL & DO A FRAME OFF. BELIEVE IT OR NOT BUT I DID NOT FIND ANY RUST EXCEPT WHAT THERE WAS ON THE FLOOR BOARD FROM THE T-TOPS DRIPPING WATER (FIXED NOW) GOT THE FRAME OFF COMPLETED & WAS DRIVING & DROPPED #8 CYLINDER. TORE DOWN & FOUND PISTON RING GONE. CYLINDER WALLS OK. AT THAT TIME I FOUND A 98 MUSTANG 4.6L WITH ONLY 9,500 MILES THAT WAS ROLLED. BOUGHT CAR & TOOK ALL COMPONETS OUT & SWAPPED. I KEPT ALL MY COMPONETS FROM THE 88 TO KEEP FOR VALUE IF I DECIDE TO DROP THE PUSHROD 5.0 BACK IN. I HAD PAINTED IT A BRIGHT YELLOW (SHARP) I THOUGHT IT WOULD LOOK BAD, BUT AFTER IT WAS DOWN I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE COLOR. ADDED YELLOW PAINTED COBRA R WHEELS & WOW IT LOOKS GOOD. HAVE WON A FEW AWARDS FROM VEHICLE AT SHOWS. HAVE ONLY HAD IT DONE FOR 9 MONTHS. BUT I LOVE THE 4.6L SWAP.
